2018 Guest Exhibition, Monday, 5th March, 6.45pm (Whitehall)
You are warmly invited to the opening of this year’s Arts Week. This year we are delighted to be hosting Stoney Road Studios along with portraitist, William Nathans. We will be hosting a buffet dinner with a talk at 8.15pm. Tickets are €20 and available to book by emailing cboobbyer@staff.stcolumbas.ie.
Stoney Road Press
Stoney Road is a fine art publishing house which since 2001 has been collaborating with Ireland’s leading contemporary artists to produce limited edition hand-made prints, books, sculptures and tapestries.
Based in Dublin, Stoney Road Press is the only independent commercially run fine art print studio in Ireland. It is also the only Irish member of the International Fine Print Dealers Association.
Combining traditional printing techniques with innovative digital technology, the studio produces a body of work which reflects the individual skill of each artist. In recent years the portfolio has expanded to include new work with international artists.
William Nathans
William is a classically trained painter working in the USA and Ireland. He trained first in New York City and then spent an additional three years training in Toronto, Canada at the Academy for Realist Art. His greatest interest is in painting the human person, particularly the painted portrait.
“I believe it to be the greatest challenge to represent in paint and charcoal the essence of the human spirit. I strive to give life, emotion and pathos to my subjects who range from all walks of life.”
William’s work includes portraits currently hanging in the Vatican City. He has been both a finalist and runner up in competitions run by the Portrait Society of Self-portrait America.
Saturday, 10th March, Portrait Drawing Masterclass for students and parents at 2.30pm with William Nathans
Invited senior pupils and interested parents are welcome to join for an inspiring afternoon in the art room.
Poetry Slam Competition with Jasper Bark, Friday, 9th March, 8.15pm (BSR)
The evening is open to all students and parents. Do come and help pupils decide on the winners of the Poetry Slam Competition. Jasper will spend two days preparing pupils from Primary to 4th Year to perform their poems for us on Friday night where the winners will be decided. He will round off the evening performing some of his own work.
Jasper Bark is an award-winning novelist, children’s author and comic book writer. Famed for his imaginative story telling he’s published four novels, twelve children’s books and countless comics and graphic novels. His work has been translated into nine languages and is used in schools throughout the UK to improve literacy. He regularly performs his work all over the country, on the radio and through regular podcasts.
Pupil Art Exhibition and Art Prize Evening with Joy Gerrard, Saturday, 8.15pm (BSR)
The evening is open to all students and parents. Do join us to view your children’s work and to hear from acclaimed artist, Joy Gerrard about her own work.
We are fortunate to host Joy Gerrard this year. Joy has an MA and an MPhil from the Royal College of Art, London. Recent awards include the Ortho mid-career artist award from the RHA, 2015, an Irish Arts Council Bursary in 2011 and the Man Group drawing prize in 2007.

Music Recitals and Music Prize evening with Karen Ní Bhroin, Sunday, 8.15pm (BSR)
The evening is open to all students and parents. Come and listen to a wonderful evening of music which will be adjudicated by Karen Ní Bhroin.
Karen Ní Bhroin is a Music Education graduate of Trinity College Dublin in collaboration with The Royal Irish Academy of Music and the DIT Conservatoire of Music and Drama. Karen is the current Deputy Conductor with Dublin Orchestral Players and was RTE Choirs, Orchestras and Quartets Conductor in Training 2016/2017.
